DLO Foundation

Interview With Aloiti Foundation – Discussing The Organisation And Its Future Endeavours

What projects does the organisation see having the greatest impact?

The foundation recognises the feeding program as the project with the greatest impact for several reasons. Firstly, it not only benefits the children directly but also extends its positive effects to their families. Moreover, the program has the potential to bring about long-term societal impact by empowering children through education, enabling them to achieve significant milestones in their learning journeys. We have witnessed remarkable transformations in children, with weight gains of over 8kg, and observed increased student enrollment in the 2020 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.

Which region in Nigeria will the organisation target first?

The initial target regions for our foundation in Nigeria are Oyo and Ogun states. We have chosen these areas because of our familiarity with the regions and our established trust with parents who entrust their children to our care. Our intention is to refine our approach in these two states and then expand our efforts to the northern regions, where the need is most pronounced.

What have been some obstacles facing the organisation?

The foundation has encountered significant obstacles, primarily due to the extensive suffering experienced by many people. While our primary focus is on helping the children, we also strive to support the teachers who play a crucial role in their education. Neglecting the needs of the teachers can hinder their ability to provide adequate care to the children, making the overall process more difficult and frustrating.

How does the organisation define itself?

Our organisation defines itself as a charity foundation dedicated to the upliftment of underprivileged children. We strive to address the multifaceted needs of children by providing them with essential resources, education, and support to facilitate their overall growth and development.

What are its core values?

Our core values are Love, Perseverance, Hope, and Guardianship. These values underpin our organization’s ethos and guide our actions, decisions, and interactions with the children and communities we serve.

How does the organisation plan to reach more remote areas/regions?

To extend our reach to remote areas and regions, our organisation follows a meticulous approach. Prior to providing support to any region, we conduct thorough surveys and assessments to gain a comprehensive understanding of the specific needs and challenges faced by the community. This allows us to make informed decisions on how best to assist and uplift the remote areas effectively.

Does the organisation think local and national governments can better collaborate with its goals?

Absolutely, our organisation firmly believes in the power of collaboration. We wholeheartedly encourage local and national governments to join hands with us and align their goals with ours. By pooling resources, expertise, and efforts, we can achieve greater outcomes and provide increased support to underprivileged children and communities.

What structural issues does the organisation see as the root cause of the underprivileged children?

The organisation identifies various structural issues as the root causes of underprivileged children. These may include systemic poverty, lack of access to quality education, inadequate healthcare facilities, limited economic opportunities, and social inequality. Addressing these root causes requires a comprehensive and multifaceted approach involving various stakeholders.

Does the organisation plan on pursuing ad-hoc style targeting for projects?

Yes, our organisation does pursue ad-hoc style targeting for projects. For instance, we recently conducted a Ramadan drive specifically tailored to assist the Muslim community. We believe in customizing our initiatives to suit the unique needs and cultural contexts of different target groups and communities.

What have been some successes achieved by the organisation?

We have celebrated numerous successes as an organization. Some notable achievements include:

    1. The feeding program
    2. The introduction of a case study system aimed at maintaining the progress of students individually, especially malnourished children, has reflected heart-warming results.
    3. The last academic term reflected the children had a drastic healthy increase in their weight due to their new dietary intake. This achievement reflects that the feeding program improves a child’s nutrition and well- being.
    4. Over 50% of the students at the school were unable to afford to bring any form of food, snacks, or water to school. However, with the feeding program introduced, every student can have lunch, which is sometimes the only meal they have in a day. The feeding program truly reduces starvation and child hunger.
    5. There has been a 125% increase in the school’s 2021/2022 applications due to the feeding program in the school. This achievement has led to more students being provided with learning opportunities. In addition, there has been an increase of over 50% in the student’s overall school attendance. The parents and students have been presented with an incentive to encourage the students to attend school, regardless of their gender.
    6. Furthermore, there has been an increase of 75% in the students’ overall academic performance, the feeding program improves their ability to focus and acquire the knowledge of the day.

Does the organisation plan on focusing mainly on long-term-oriented projects as opposed to stop-gap charity measures?

We prefer to focus on long-term projects especially because we promote the holistic development of the children and that is a long-term project.
